Heather Lee and Jordan Wynn

Jordan Wynn and his wife Heather Lee are local musicians and dear friends of mine. A couple of years ago they recorded an album which I had the privilege to play bass on. After quite some time on the shelf this excellent record will finally get released later this year or early next. Therefore we had a shoot for some upcoming promotions and possible album art and it turned out great!

They will be playing their first full band show ( featuring Jimi, Beth, Juan, and myself as the backing band, The Faithful Sinners) in almost two years. You will not want to miss it! The show is August 27th at the Backbooth to support The Silver Fleece.

A Lynch kind of week

So last week was unusually filled with all things David Lynch. I'll explain and include images, as not to bore you.

Monday morning, after a long graveyard shift, I awoke on my friends couch and Mulholland Drive was on. Its been years since I've seen it and its as strange as I remember. But this time the whole dream thing fit together for me. I really enjoyed it. I forgot how scary that first diner scene is and how awesome the cowboy is.

The next day, Tuesday (the day records are released), I was at the record shop and noticed that Dark Night of The Soul was released. I had heard the album a year or so ago (on-line) and was very excited to finally see its vinyl release. Its a record with a book and gallery show of photographs as companion pieces. And you guessed it, Lynch created the 50+ photos for the book/show and sings on 2 of the records tracks. Great album, you should check it out. I also have the book of all lynch's photos in the mail! Got the out of print book for a quarter of the price! And to top it off I will be in NY in a couple weeks and hopefully will get to see the gallery show!

Its now Wednesday nothing is on the TV that night until I find the pilot of Twin Peaks. I was super excited! I never had a chance to watch all the episodes and occasionally I try to watch a random episode but its too small of a piece to the larger puzzle. Gee Golly the pilot is great! I am now hooked and must watch them all! I can't wait to see dwarfs talking backwards.

Then Thursday, I finished an essay in the book I'm reading. The book, A supposedly fun thing I'll never do again by David Foster Wallace. It dawned on me that there was a chapter/essay on David Lynch. I was eager to begin reading it. Its written during the filming of Lost Highway and is very intriguing. It discribes movies sets (and the people on them), defines "Lynchian", and explores the (insert adjective)* mind of this great creative artist.

* sick, twisted, genius, dark, or labyrinthian

So needless to say I had quite a head full of Lynch last week. But I enjoyed reconnecting with his work.

Trivia Tidbit: Agent Dale Cooper and Myself both like our coffee the same way: "Black as midnight on a moonless night."

On a photography note: I have two shoots this week and a couple next week. Also a possible lynch inspired personal project. So lots of new images coming soon! Take Care!

The Small Stakes

I received my latest purchase Last week! Its the first book from graphic artist Jason Munn whos company, The Small Stakes, creates screen printed artwork. As some of you may know I collect screen printed concert posters from shows I've attended. After following Munn's work for a while, I was lucky enough to get a print last year at a Monsters of Folk show in Oakland, his hometown. Check out his work here.

Lately I've been getting a number of design jobs. Here are two recent flyers I designed. The first is for the Plaza Theatre show featuring Matt Butcher, The JC's and Will Quinlan. I will also have numbered silkscreen posters available at the show. (different design than the flyer) I will post a preview the week of the show.

The other is for Thomas Wynn's CD release show this Saturday. I'm very excited about this show! Thomas and the Believers will be stunning and it will be your first chance to get there new album. I had the oportunity to designed the layout of there new CD along with original art from Little Joe. It looks awesome and sounds amazing! Be sure to come to the show and get a copy.

I had a photo shoot with Bombadil on Saturday. Bombadil (Ramseur Records) is an awesome band out of North Carolina. They were a lot of fun to shoot and are a very creative bunch. Its not everyday I get to shoot a band as they pretend to be whales. (see third from the top) I loved it, it was quite inspiring. And I think I've hooked Stewart on a new hobbie. I let him borrow my camera during the show in Tampa. He disappeared and shot a few hundred pictures. He's quite a natural and has a good eye. Thanks again to all of them for letting me hang out. I laughed more and slept less than I ever had in a 72 hour period. But it was all well worth it. I had a chance to meet and see a couple shows with the Avett Brothers thanks to my friend Matt Butcher. Matt was opening up two shows with them in Knoxville, TN earlier this month and asked me to come along. The Avetts are a lot fun and very generous. I've seen them numerous times but the first night in Knoxville was the best I'd seen.

This Wednesday I will embarq on a journey with Matt Butcher and The Revolvers to Knoxville, TN were they will be supporting The Avett Brothers for two, soon to be, sold out shows at the Bijou Theater. I'm looking forward to being in a van with 6 other people for 12 hours and then fighting over floor spots as all seven of us stay in one room. Sarcasm aside, I really can't wait, it should be amazing and I will have some great pictures (and video) of it all when I return.

Don't forget Matt Butchers debut album "Me and My Friends" will be available in early December. The CD release party will be held Dec 5th and 6th in Tampa and Orlando. This will be your first chance to buy this great record. Also check out his space at the link below.

Secondhand Cigar Box Guitars

Jimmy Spears is the creator of Secondhand Cigar Box Guitars. His instruments are each one of a kind and sound amazing. Great for lap slide and bottleneck slide but can be played normal as well. There is a link to his website below. He was at the Mount Dora Craft Fair this past weekend and currently has quite the inventory to choose from. We did a photo shoot last week and he should have pictures of him and all the current guitars up soon.

Bon Iver in NYC

I just got tickets today to see Bon Iver at Town Hall in NYC!!! Just so happens they're playing a two night stand while I'm in NY this December. I caught some of their set a couple of months ago, opening up for Wilco. They are an amazing band and put on quite a special show. I'm extremely excited.

Tomorrow I will be hosting my Underground Showcase at the RETRO in downtown Mount Dora. There will be some great music from my good friends in 22 Blaac and my good friend Lauris Vidal. I bring some of the best original music in Central Florida right to Mount Dora. Each week is very special and entertaining please come show your support.

I know its a Wednesday but we finish by 11:30 so you can still get enough sleep for work the next day. There is great food, great drinks, great music, and great people. So come for dinner and stay for the entertainment.
